Map of Sri Lanka in Russian with resorts and attractions. Where is Sri Lanka on the world map

The Blessed Land or Sri Lanka is located in the southeastern part of the Hindustan Peninsula. This is the land of elephants, Hinduism and, more recently, active tourism.

Previously, a significant number of Portuguese traveled to Lanka, since the island of Ceylon (previous name) belonged to them and was a colony. Now representatives of most developed countries are actively expanding. We are, of course, talking about tourist expansion, because this island really seems to be blessed by nature.

Where is?

Noted the location is clear to few, but if you say Sri Lanka - it’s there near India, then most people will understand where the island is located.

At the same time, many consider the island to be part of India, but in reality Sri Lanka is a separate social democratic republic, headed by a president who is not Indian, but his own Sri Lankan.

Certainly, Lanka and India have a lot in common in terms of culture and social order. For example, on the island money is called rupees in the Indian style, only there they use their own Sri Lankan rupees.

The most popular languages are those (Sinhala and Tamil) which have linguistic connections with Indian linguistic culture.

These countries have a lot in common in terms of religious beliefs and cults. Indeed, in addition to the religions left over from the colonialists, the most widespread here are the eastern religions, in particular Hinduism and Buddhism.

Weather on the island

As well as in many tropical countries on the island of Sri Lanka monsoons dominate, that is, stable winds that shape the weather and change their direction with the changing of the main (winter and summer) seasons.

In Lanka, the southwest monsoon lasts from June to October, and the northeast monsoon during the rest of the year. In general, the weather is characterized high humidity and temperature. Actually, it’s not surprising, because the equator is not far away.

Throughout the year, the temperature is in the range of 25-30 degrees, in the mountains it is about 10 degrees less. Therefore, the periods are divided into dry season and rainy season.

The territory of the island is not much larger than the Moscow region, but, oddly enough, on different parts of the coast rainy seasons fall on different periods of the year, like this:

  • on the northeast coast from October to the end of December It's the rainy season;
  • on the southwest coast from May to July It's rainy season.

Thus, finding a resort with optimal conditions is not difficult. Somewhere it is always dry (during the dry season there is practically no rain) and warm.

Best resorts

Capital of the island is the city of Kotte, and the largest city is, which, by the way, is located very close to Kotte. However, this information has no significant practical use, because it is much more interesting to learn about the best Sri Lankan resorts.

Weligama

The resort is about 150 kilometers from Colombo, which replete with small hotels with exquisite service. Weligama is located in a beautiful bay and attracts with its natural beauty.

Kylie Minogue wrote a song about this resort, or more precisely about the island of Taprobane, which is located in Weligama.

Besides this Weligama is a base for surfers, in particular the eastern part of the resort, where there are magnificent waves and picturesque sunsets, which we advise you to admire if possible. The western part is calmer with no waves and clear azure water.

There are many on the city streets interesting buildings colonial era, Buddhist and Catholic temples.

Tangalle

Perfect option for a secluded holiday on the south coast. There are relatively few tourists here, but at the same time magnificent beaches known, if not throughout the world, then throughout Asia:

  • Pallikaduva;
  • Medaketia;
  • Goyambokka;
  • Medilla.

The most popular beach is Medaketia, as it is the safest swimming area and most hotels are based near this beach.

Perhaps the most beautiful is Medilla, which pleases with clean sand and charming corals near the shore. The resort is interesting for its variety; it is quite easy to find budget apartments here; in Sri Lanka, such an option is rare.

Bentota

It is worth noting this resort, which has its own airport and is considered one of the most romantic. There are magnificent beaches, palm wine and great diving at the largest diving center on the island.

Beaches and coast

Overall a beach holiday is one of the most common directions. Partying in Lanka is not so common, but relaxing on the beach is possible almost along the entire coast.

Wherever you point on the map of the island on the coast, most likely there is a good beach, and possibly resorts with hotels.

It will take a lot of time to describe each resort, although for a tourist you just need to know about the suitability of almost every Sri Lankan beach for recreation. Although, of course, it is often better to look for resorts on south coast.

Attractions and entertainment by the ocean

Sri Lanka has a long history. Travelers are attracted by the most beautiful places on the ocean coast and numerous historical and cultural monuments.

Sri Lanka excels in the presence of temples dedicated to Buddha and other places of worship. Thus, near Dambula on the Mihintale hills, the remains of ancient temples were found. These ruins are considered the beginning of the emergence of the Buddhist religion in the country.

Features of the holiday

Spending a holiday in Sri Lanka means: quiet, relaxing holiday, proximity to the warm sea and nature. There are very few such “leisurely” countries in the world, where you don’t see constant rush and bustle, where people know how to enjoy life. Slowness also applies to hotel staff other than top establishments.

Holidays on the island will appeal to both beginners and experienced tourists.

You just need to take care of safety first, in particular in terms of food and water that you can consume on the island.

Additionally, you need to consider lack of tourist infrastructure, if you want to island hop and explore Sri Lanka yourself.

If you start to wonder why Sri Lankans rest on weekdays, then the lunar calendar can give you a hint. In Sri Lanka weekends are full moons, which are intended for meditation. This is an amazing country in which the rulers care about the spiritual development of their subjects.

Sri Lanka on the world map - next video:

Hello to all those who have looked at the pages of the adventure project “On the Edge”! Have you ever wondered where Sri Lanka is on the world map?

Many will answer that it is not far from India; geography buffs will say that it is in the Indian Ocean. And only sophisticated connoisseurs know that this state is located on the former Ceylon - an island that is considered to be the birthplace of the best tea in the world. But, to be honest, the tea produced here has long been a thing of the past - now it is a center of tourism that attracts travelers from all over the world.

Amazing Sri Lanka

When I first looked at the photos taken on this island, I couldn’t believe my eyes - the weather was simply beautiful, the sea, the atmosphere - everything just called to me. But, as usual, when planning a trip, you need to look at the prices, which will upset us... The tours that we are offered differ from each other to varying degrees in the quality of service that the hotel will provide.

Personally, I strive for profit; it just so happens that living conditions and the number of steps in the direction of the sea do not really matter, because the main thing is the atmosphere, surroundings and adventures that can be found along the way.

By the way, do you know why everyone on the nearby islands has this skin color? The shade is very beautiful and no doubt they got it from their parents - after all, under the equatorial sun you can tan very quickly. But our parents did not give us genetic protection from scorching rays, so take care of appropriate protection.

How long does it take to fly to Sri Lanka?

If you are thinking about how long it is to fly to the island of Ceylon, then you don’t have to worry about the fact that it will take a long time. At least not as much as before. From 2013 to the present day, air carriers, in response to the increased interest of our vacationers in this island, have increased the number of direct flights to the Sri Lanka airport. The flight lasts 8-9 hours.

The place where it is located is the capital of the country, the city of Colombo.

This place, despite the lack of direct connection with the rest of the world, gives the impression of a modern, noisy and very religious metropolis. All this, everything except the temples, was created by the hands of visiting businessmen and the local elite - the city welcomes you with a modern airport, offers a bunch of travel options and as a result you find yourself in a very interesting, lively and incense-rich place.

Features of Sri Lanka

Depending on the place where you find yourself, you may encounter either an exotic resort with a large selection of unusual entertainment, or a completely calm, quiet place. But, of course, it will be quiet and calm only by local standards. You will plunge into relaxation headlong, and at first you won’t even be able to breathe from the impressions. But enough about that, we need to keep the intrigue)

The special geographical location makes Sri Lanka such a holiday destination where it is difficult not to enjoy the sea and air. Although, there are also those who are dissatisfied, because the heat still interferes. But the local sea makes it possible to completely forget and relax. Affectionate and warm, soft and pleasant, it maintains a stable temperature of 29 degrees all year round. Here even the most confident skeptic will be convinced that the existence of heaven is possible.

I wrote in more detail about the features of wintering in Sri Lanka in this article “”

It will be especially convincing after sightseeing and tourist walks. The reward is doubly pleasant if it is earned through your own labor, in this case - by listening to the excursion and buying souvenirs.

After the trip, you can easily show the location of Sri Lanka, because you will definitely remember it. In what other country can you get such a rich and at the same time soothing holiday that gives new breath and new strength? Only here, in a place where the modern world, bright, unforgettable people and the exoticism of ancient culture meet! Here you will feel literally on top of the world!

Sri Lanka on the world map

This state is very small. For comparison, the territory of Russia is 263 times larger, Ukraine - 9. The area of Sri Lanka is 65 square kilometers.

Sri Lanka on the world map is located on the southern side of India, more precisely, slightly south of the Hindustan Peninsula. To easily find Sri Lanka on a world map, you need to look at the southern end of India, next to which there is a small island separated by a narrow strait.

Sri Lanka

Important! Sri Lanka is an independent state and has no relation to India or other countries.

If you carefully study the map, you will notice that the state has the shape of a drop. Many famous European poets, having visited Sri Lanka and admired its picturesque beauty, wrote that it truly looks like a pearl by the sea. Among businessmen, this island was secretly nicknamed Sapphire, since the rare stone of the same name has been mined there for a very long time. Record-breaking large sapphires were mined on the territory of this state.

The island is washed by the Indian Ocean and the waters of the Bay of Bengal.

Distance between cities and resorts

Arriving at Banduranaike International Airport, the capital can be reached by bus in an hour or by car in 40 minutes, covering a distance of 32 kilometers. Many tourists prefer to relax in the resort town of Negombo, which is located 12 kilometers away and can be reached in 15 minutes by car or 40 minutes by bus.

All transport interchanges start from the capital of the state - Colombo, so you should consider the distance to the cities from there.

First, you should consider the distance from Colombo to the main attractions of Sri Lanka:

  • The distance to Anuradhapura is 206 kilometers; this distance can be covered by bus in 8 hours or by train. The train schedule changes frequently, so it is better to check it on the official website of the railway station;
  • you can get to Kurunegala by bus in just 3 hours, covering about 105 kilometers;
  • the distance to Kandy is 145 km, or 5 hours by bus, in which case a trip by express train is recommended;
  • One of the longest trips can be the path to Batticolao, as much as 326 kilometers. If you wish, you can get there by bus, but it would be best to do it on a night train, which has very decent conditions;
  • To get to the famous Arugam Bay from the capital you will have to travel 324 km, which will take at least 12 hours. In order not to feel too much discomfort when moving at night, it is best to make a stop in Balangoda and, after spending the night there, continue the journey.

Of course, in addition to viewing local attractions, vacationers are also interested in the distance to the best beaches of the resort:

  • The closest resort to the capital is Bentota, at a distance of 71 kilometers. It is better to get there by car in 40 minutes, since a regular bus will cover this distance in 2 and a half hours;
  • the distance from the capital to Kosgoda is about 80 km;
  • in 3.5 hours you can drive to the resort of Hikkaduwa, located 110 kilometers away;
  • the route to one of the best beaches in Sri Lanka, Mirissa, will be 153 kilometers;
  • You need to travel about two hundred kilometers to get to Tangale. A local bus will travel this distance in 8 hours. In order not to torment yourself with such a long journey while sitting, it is best to first get to Fort Galle by train, and then transfer to a bus;
  • a long journey also awaits those who choose Mattara for their vacation. You will have to travel 162 kilometers by bus in about 6 hours.

Today, the most convenient way to travel to the beaches of Sri Lanka is by train. He begins his journey from the capital, following to Mattara, while stopping in almost all resort towns.

Additional Information! The quality of roads in this country is very low, so it takes significantly more time to cover distances than, for example, in Russia. In addition to the poor quality of the roads, it is worth noting their heavy congestion. It will take about six hours to travel 150 kilometers in Sri Lanka. So that a holiday on this island does not seem like a complete journey, you should allocate no more than two to three hours a day for this.

Is it possible to see the resorts of the island using interactive maps

In the 21st century, in order to take a closer look at the country and choose a suitable vacation spot, you don’t even have to go there. Google and Yandex online maps completely cover the territory of Sri Lanka, allowing tourists to familiarize themselves in detail with the terrain of the island.

When viewing the island on interactive maps from a great height, there is practically no difference between Yandex and Google maps. However, for those who want to explore the island in more detail, Google is definitely a better choice.

Additional Information! To view the satellite map of the state, there are about three viewing modes. To better perceive what the satellite shows, it is worth switching these modes from time to time. For example, to find a specific address in Sri Lanka, you need to use the “hybrid” map mode; for a general overview of a certain place, the “satellite” mode is best suited.

With the help of such online maps, you can not only look at the cities and resorts of Sri Lanka, but also look at nearby countries in order to have an idea of the geopolitical state of the state.

Advantages and disadvantages of the geographical location of the island

Almost all resorts in the world have not only advantages, but also a number of disadvantages. Sri Lanka was no exception. In particular, it is proposed to consider the geographical location of the country.

A significant advantage of the island is that the air temperature on the coast is always high, conducive to a beach holiday. At the same time, due to the tropical climate, the world of insects is very diverse, which often worries tourists.

The disadvantages include the fact that most beaches have strong currents and large waves, so there is always work for local lifeguards.

The biggest drawback for Russian tourists is the very large remoteness of this resort. To get from Moscow to Sri Lanka, you will have to cover about 6520 km.

In conclusion, we can add that you should not go to Sri Lanka for entertainment, since nightlife and other pleasures are completely absent there. The island captivates tourists primarily with its natural beauty and favorable climate, which is something worth betting on.

Hidden in seven caskets, the Buddha's tooth is not one of those relics that is put on display. On the infrequent days when this happens, he is placed in a golden noose. Which in turn comes out of the golden lotus. After all, it was in it, according to legend, that Buddha’s tooth was found.

Starting from leopards and wild boars, and ending with monkeys and various birds.

Beaches of Sri Lanka.

Unawatuna beach.

Unawatuna is a small village, and also one of the best beaches in Sri Lanka. Residents of the village engage in fishing, which is what is offered to tourists. In addition, the beach is considered the safest on the entire island. And more suitable for families with children, since it contains a large number of small bodies of water without a current. Diving, surfing, fishing or just relaxing on the shore, any of these activities are available to guests and village residents.

Bentota Beach.

Bentota Beach is two completely different beaches. The northern, calm Paradise and the southern, more saturated with tourist activities. Those who are tired of noisy cities find solitude and tranquility on the northern beach. In the south, in turn, vacationers enjoy various types of water activities. Surfing, water skiing and canoeing and banana boat rides. Also, both islands offer a decent selection of hotels for tourists with different financial capabilities.

Mirissa Beach

Mirissa is perhaps the most unique beach on the island. As local residents claim, the city of Mirissa itself does not exist. It appeared after a stream of tourists headed to this beach. Tourism has led to hotels being built on the beach. The appearance of a resort there determined the emergence of a new city under the beautiful name Mirissa. The beach is considered one of the cleanest and most well-groomed. And it delights everyone who chooses it for relaxation.

Beach in Negombo town

The beach in Negombo is probably the least crowded of the famous beaches in Sri Lanka. As a rule, tourists visit it privately, but not for long. The lagoon, on the shores of which the city is located, is one of the fishiest on the island. Therefore, diving is the most popular activity here. Guests are invited not only to observe a stunning variety of fish, but also to attend a diving school. Prices are more than moderate.

Mount Lavinia Beach

Mount Lavinia Beach is located closest to the capital Colombo than any other beach. Which at the same time has advantages, like a short journey to the airport, as well as disadvantages. The disadvantages include the contaminated area of the beach with garbage that is thrown out by the ocean. Therefore, the beach is not very crowded with tourists. It is more suitable for residents of the capital. For whom Sri Lanka is not a holiday destination, but a place of residence. They go with their family to the beach on weekends and return to the city. Tourists prefer to spend more time visiting other, more resort beaches of the island.

Hikkaduwa Beach

Hikkaduwa Beach is located near Unawatuna. It is recommended, due to their close location, to visit both. But since not everyone can afford it, here is a short description of Hikkaduwa beach. Compared to Unawatuna, it is impressive with its vast territory. And, of course, this is another beach perfect for surfers. Ordinary bathers have a hard time if they get here at the wrong time. Strong waves, and even a possible storm, from May to October, have an adverse effect on the operation of the beach. In general, long live surfing and active recreation.

Koggala Beach

Despite the presence of several excellent five-star hotels, Koggala is, however, not the most visited beach on the island. But he is also famous in his own way. For example, the beautiful and largest lake on the island, Koggala. Excursions around it by boat will give you an unforgettable experience. The beach is not the most welcoming for swimmers. Sri Lanka can offer quieter places for this. But what is inconvenient and even dangerous for swimmers is a real paradise for surfers.

Weligama Beach
